Or, The Doomscroller's Lullaby.
A gentle reminder that connecting with people and sharing even a fleeting moment of peace, joy, and love, even on the grimmest-feeling of nights (and there are a lot of them these days) can help to wall off the despair and keep your heart from growing numb or cold.
This is the first song I've shared with anyone other than my songwriter pals and close friends in over a decade. I wrote it quickly, and I decided to release it quickly. Why?
Well, we're releasing an album this fall that took years and years to make. And while I'm in love with those songs and the way we recorded them, an album takes so much longer to make than I thought. Whereas an individual song—if I'm lucky, patient, and stay out of my own way—can materialize out of the ether in instant. I was getting antsy waiting to mix & master the songs that are coming out this fall. And I wrote this new song in a 90-minute burst. I still love it. So I decided to release it quickly, while I’m still in the honeymoon phase with it. Before the doubts creep in.
There'll be some properly recorded tunes coming this fall. And I can't wait to share them. For now, let this gentle lullaby usher you out of the long dark descent of an endless doomscroll and into peaceful dreams of dogs running on a beach.
